We take security and data privacy very seriously at Cubby and we are proud to be open and transparent about how we help you simplify your busy family life through our technology.
How we connect to your email?
Cubby connects to your email through an App Password which allows us to work with most all email providers. The App Password method provides several advantages.
1) You create a one time use password that is unique to Cubby.
2) Once an app password is used it can not be reused.
3) You can revoke the app password at any time
4) If you change your main email account password your app password is disabled
Information on how to create an App Password can be found here.
What email messages we have access to?
Cubby receives a notification called a webhook when a new message hits your inbox. We match the sender of the message (and reply-to) to the Contacts that you have added to Channels in Cubby. If the message sender matches a Contact in the Cubby system we grab the email and route it to the appropriate Family Member Inbox.
Any and all emails that do not match a Contact in your Cubby are ignored and no data is viewed or saved.
What we store on our servers?
We only store message content from messages that match a Contact that you added to a Channel in Cubby. Messages are stored in a secure server with no access to the internet. Copies of messages are also stored on your local device.
What happens when I delete an email from Cubby or my Inbox?
Once a copy of your email that is matched against a Contact in Cubby is saved in Cubby it is disconnected from the copy of the email that is in your inbox. If you delete the message from your Cubby Feed it is not removed from your inbox and vice versa. If you reply to the message in Cubby or in your inbox a copy of the reply will show up in both your Cubby Feed and in your Inbox.
Does your email contain any compromising information?
Email in general is not considered the most secure medium to transport data. Thus, you’ll notice that while you may get emails from places like banks and credit cards, they do not contain any significant personal information or account numbers. Regardless, we only have access to emails that you give us permission to.
